TOLEDO- Joretta Ernestine Hersom, age 69, of Toledo died Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marshalltown with Bishop David Stimpson officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM Tuesday at the church. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 9 at 2:00 PM at New York Cemetery in Millerton, Iowa. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Joretta was born on January 3, 1939 in New York, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Irene (Holmes) Fetters. She graduated from Wayne Community High School. She was united in marriage to Leo Hersom on March 2, 1960 at the Church of Christ in Bethlehem, Iowa. Joretta was a homemaker, caring for her home and family. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, reading, and watching home fix-it shows.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband Leo of Toledo; three sons, Kirk(Tami) Hersom of Huxley, Kevin (Michele) Hersom of Cedar Falls, and Kendall Hersom of Toledo; four grandchildren, Paige, Madison, Justin, and Travis; one great-grandson, Austin; two brothers, Jerald (Ida) Fetters of Clio, and Jim (Rene) Fetters of Millerton; and one sister Janice Fetters of Denver, CO.
A memorial fund has been established.
