Obituary

Joseph P. Brewer, 73, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 at his daughter's home under the care of Unity-Point Hospice. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Tama VFW.

Joseph Paul Brewer was born September 2, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Eldora School.

He married Carolyn Keller and the couple moved to California. Together they made a great team. They found their way back to Iowa and made Toledo their home. Joseph loved the outdoors, especially fishing, his county drives, and walking Max every morning. He was a very generous man, giving to the American Cancer Society, Iowa State Food Pantry and Mayo Clinic, were just a few. He was a very humble and honorable man that would give you the shirt off his back. Joseph was always there to lend a hand. He was a crane operator for the railroad, retiring in 2008, after 33 years of service. He loved his grandchildren and loved to spend time with all of them.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Brewer of Toledo; their children, Paula, Holly (Neil) Jacobson of Marshalltown, Joseph (Nanabah) Brewer II of Lawrence, Kansas and Samuel (Brandi) Brewer of Tama; grandchildren, Kyuss, Kailyn, Kyler, I'aywa, Seenane, Joseph III, Cassie and Hayden; siblings, James Brewer of Grinnell, David Feese of Sioux City, Iowa and Lynnette Feese of California; his adoptive mother, Jean Morehouse; and his faithful companion, Max.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Samuel Brewer; his adopted father, Jack Morehouse; and his brothers, Frank Feese and Vic Feese.

A memorial fund will be established.
