Obituary

TAMA- Joy Wacha Wilkinson, age 87, a long time resident of Tama, died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at Grandview Acres in Toledo following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Robert Gleason officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Monday, January 15, 2007 from 4-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Joy was born on November 28, 1919 in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas J. and Ruth (Semotan) Wacha.
She attended Toledo schools graduating in 1937.
Joy married Wesley L. "Pee Wee" Wilkinson on March 7, 1942 making their home in Tama. She worked at Denny's Shoe Store in Tama for twenty-five years before retiring. Joy and Pee Wee spent many winters in Texas traveling to Mexico.
Joy was very active with the Tama-Toledo Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary as their first charter member and also as a past president. She enjoyed volunteering at the Clothes Closet weekly before making her residence at Grandview Acres. Joy especially enjoyed and loved her family and friends. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Tama.
Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wesley; her brothers, Carleton and Wayne Wacha; and a sister, Glendola Wacha.
Survivors include her sister, Maryan (Leonard) Dostal of Traer; one daughter, Margaret Gleason of Marion; and one son, David Wilkinson of Naalehu, Hawaii; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
