TAMA- Joy Yilek, age 78, of Tama, died Monday night, March 5, 2007 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center under the care of Iowa River Hospice following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 9, 2007 at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held prior to the service Friday, March 9, 2007 from 9-11 AM at the funeral home.
Joy was born on February 17, 1929 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Harley and Lillian (Shyvley) Carkhuff.
She married Leonard Yilek on February 7, 1948 in Maryland. Joy worked as a substance abuse counselor. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. Joy liked crafts as well as cooking. She also enjoyed camping trips with her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, and numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Daryl) Probst of Owatonna, Minnesota, Sandra "Sam" (Keith) Lazar of Washington, Iowa, Tammy Kuhle of Des Moines, and Joseph (Diane) Yilek of Tama; grandchildren, Jason (Gina) Hill, Wes (Chris) Lazar, Tonya Lazar, Stephanie Kuhle, Danielle Kuhle, Jodi Yilek, and Joshua Yilek; great-grandchildren, Tessa Hill, Tyson Hill, and Schyler Lazar; a sister Betty Maddox of Spokane, Washington; and a brother Landy Carkhuff of Cedar Rapids.
A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society.
