Joyce Mae "A ni bi di" Kapayou, 84, of Tama, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Sunday, May 24, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Luke Kapayou as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Saturday evening, May 23, 2020 at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the settlement.
Joyce was born on February 20, 1936 in Niobrara, NE, the daughter of Kenneth Youngbear Sr. and Rose Herschel.
She married Eugene Kapayou Sr. and was a homemaker. In her spare time, she loved to play Bingo and work her puzzle books. She also liked watching game shows, cooking shows and classic movies. She enjoyed the Powwow and was an avid Hawkeye football fan. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids.
Survivors include sons, Scott Youngbear, Owen (Sandra) Kapayou, Cameron Kapayou, Dale Black Cloud, and Leland Morgan all of Tama; daughters, Gina Kapayou of Tama, Roni Kapayou, and Dixie Kapayou both of Toledo; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Allen Youngbear of Cody, Wyoming, Irving (Tressa) Youngbear, Beatrice Youngbear, and Gerald Youngbear all of Tama.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Eugene Kapayou Sr. on November 21, 2001; sons, Jack Kapayou and Eugene Kapayou Jr.; brothers, Kenneth Youngbear Jr, Leon Youngbear, Jerry Youngbear, and Timmy Youngbear; sister, Inez Youngbear; and grandsons, Marcus Kapayou, and Mario Mitchell.
