TOLEDO-Karna Cuthbertson, 101, of Toledo, died on June 30, 2007 at Grandview Acres in Toledo. She had been under the care of Grandview Acres, Iowa River Hospice, and of her daughter for the last few years. A public graveside service and burial will be held on Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Toledo. Visitation will be held from
1:00 until time of service Tuesday at the cemetery. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Karna Lindahl Cuthbertson was born July 31, 1905 in Kanawha, Iowa. She received her high school education in Dysart while caring for the Winter family children there. In 1924, she married Earl Cuthbertson from north of Toledo. They resided in Toledo where Earl owned a partnership in the Toledo Tire and Battery Station next to the Hotel Toledo.
Karna was a stay-at-home mother until her only child, Doris, went off to college. Then she began working in Toledo as a grocery store clerk where she was well known for her quiet, tactful, and friendly manner. She also served as an assistant at the town clerk's office for a number of years.
She was a member of the Seventh-Day Baptist Church.
After her husband's death in 1991, she continued to maintain her home where she gardened until she was 97. Her vegetables and flowers were enjoyed by neighbors and all who passed by.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother Marvin, and a sister Myrtle.
Karna is survived by one daughter and husband, Doris and Walter Lacks of Norwood, New York; two granddaughters and families, Sue Zelener and Lynn Cashier of Redlands, California; and four great-grandchildren.
