TAMA-Kathleen Agnes Hardon, age 89, of Hixson, TN and formerly of Tama, was born November 19, 1921 in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Glen Albert and Agnes Charlotte (Anderly) Mercer. She died April 4, 2011 at her home in Hixson, TN. Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until time of graveside service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1940 and the State Teachers College of Iowa, Cedar Falls Iowa where she earned a teaching certificate.
On June 28, 1942 she was united in marriage to Raymond Hardon in Chelsea, IA.
Kathy taught school at a rural school near Chelsea after graduating from the State Teachers College of Iowa and also served as a substitute teacher in the Tama school system. Most recently she worked for and retired from GTE at their Toledo, IA office. Kathy was a resident of Tama until 1999 and then moved to Tennessee to be closer to her family.
Preceding her in death were her husband, parents and three brothers, Lyle, Donald and Bernard Mercer.
Survivors include, one son Richard (the late Norris) Hardon of Hixson TN; one daughter, Linda (Ken) Elrod of Chattanooga, TN; five grandchildren, Tim Crawford of Chattanooga, TN; Jill (John) Metcalf of Chattanooga, TN, Matthew (Daisie) Hardon of Wichita Falls, TX, Erin Wilson of Wichita Falls, TX and Jared Hardon of Wichita Falls, TX: five great-grandchildren: one great-great grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
