Obituary

TOLEDO- Kenneth Dean Kolpin, age 68, of Toledo, died Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness. Kenneth's body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2007 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Ron Arends officiating. Interment will be private at a future date. A Memorial Visitation will be Monday, August 6, 2007 from 4 to 8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Kenneth Dean Kolpin was born on May 18, 1939, in rural Aurelia, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Lilly (Buddenhagen) Kolpin.
He graduated from Aurelia High School and received his B.S. degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. He pursued his Masters Degree at the University of Northern Iowa.
On August 20, 1961, he was united in marriage to Patricia Stowe in Wichita, Kansas. Kenneth was a schoolteacher and coach in Northwest Iowa and then at the South Tama County School District where he also served as Activities Director. Before retiring, he was an administrator for the Mutual Insurance Association of Iowa.
Kenneth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. He was also a member of the Iowa Athletic Directors Hall of Fame and Iowa Athletic Directors Association. He previously served on the Foster Care Review Board, Tama County Compensation Board, and was a past President of the Tama-Toledo Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, reading, playing cards and cribbage. Kenneth especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Pat of Toledo; four children, Michelle (Galen) Musgrave of Toledo, Michael (Mary) Kolpin of Overland Park, KS, Matthew (Julie) Kolpin of Cary, NC, and Stanley (Becky) Zeutenhorst of Brooklyn; ten grandchildren, Zachary and Zoshua Zeutenhorst, George, Jade, and Jess Musgrave, Alexandria, Stuart, Andrew, Charlie and Gus Kolpin; one great-grandson, Braydon Zeutenhorst; two brothers, Duane (Dee) Kolpin of Hartley and Loren (Peg) Kolpin of Grinnell.
A memorial fund has been established.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Homes, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
