Larry Dean "Hooch" Blocker, 76, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at his home in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 at 12:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, February 27, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Larry was born on July 24, 1946, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Melvin V. and Tena (Balvin) Blocker.
He attended Tama schools and while going to school he lugged potatoes for Jack Spooner at Spooner's Grocery.
Larry was married to Siretta Marvin and together they had four children. They later divorced. In 1997, he married Bev Papesh.
Larry previously worked on boat motors for Spooner Sports in Tama and also repaired chainsaws and snowmobiles. He also helped his son, Tim at Blocker's Body Shop for twenty years. Larry played guitar in the band "Blocker Rockers" for many years and could also dance a good jig. Larry was a great carpenter and was always a hard worker.
Survivors include his wife, Bev of Tama; his children, Tami Blocker of Toledo, Christy Blocker of Belle Plaine, Teri (Tom) Anderson of Medina, OH, and Tim Blocker of Toledo; stepchildren, B.J. Papesh (Danielle Elliot) of Tama, Brandi (Tano) Oaxaca of Tama and Betsy (Curt) Sawyer of Montour; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Patsy Seymour, Jim (Audrey) Blocker, Jeanette Genson, Delores Baughman, David (Nancy) Blocker, Keith (Rita) Blocker, Kenneth (Bev) Blocker, LeRoy (Connie) Blocker, William (Chris) Blocker, Eugene (Mary) Blocker and Darrell Blocker; sister-in-law, Debbie Blocker; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Melvin P. Blocker and Gordon Blocker; brothers-in-law, Frank Seymour, Gary Baughman and Wes Genson; and his first wife, Siretta Blocker.
A memorial fund will be established.
