Obituary

Larry Ray Simpson, 78, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022 at the UnityPoint-Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 25, 2022 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo with Pastor Jill Mack officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 24, 2022 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Larry was born on June 13, 1943, in Mineral Wells, TX, the son of Chester Willis and Lucille (Ladely) Simpson Sr.

He graduated from HLV High School.

Larry served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was proud to be the son of a World War II POW.

On January 17, 1964, he was united in marriage to Louise Goodwin in Malcom, Iowa. Together, they had two children. Louise passed away on May 2, 2007. On February 14, 2009, he married Eve Prescott.

Larry worked for Alliant Energy for thirty-eight years, starting in appliance service, then as a meter reader, a lineman and finally retiring as a foreman.

Larry formerly served on the Toledo City Council and the Toledo Fire Department where he reached the Rank of Captain. He was also a CPR instructor for many years and served on the Toledo EMS. Larry was very proud of his yard and loved gardening and driving his golf cart around his gardens. He enjoyed camping and was a serious Hawkeye fan. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog Bella.

Survivors include his wife, Eve of Toledo; one son, Eugene "Bud" (Michele) Simpson of Altoona; one daughter, Tina (Pat) Robinson of Mitchellville; five grandchildren, Hailey Simpson, Cody Simpson, Melanie Simpson, Lauren Simpson and Tyler Simpson; from his marriage to Eve, he gained children, Jack (Melody) Prescott, Bob (Kathy) Prescott, Mike (Joan) Farrier and Leigh (Bobby) Fox; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his siblings, Junior (Mary) Simpson of Hartwick, Jim (Kay) Simpson of Victor, Bobby Simpson of Marshalltown, Rick (Joni) Simpson of Toledo and Alicia (Ron) Smith of Glenville, MN; his sister-in-law, Linda (John) Albers; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his first wife, Louise; son, Jeremy J. in infancy; daughter, Shelley Garlick; and son, Kurtis Prescott.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Toledo Fire Department.
