TOLEDO-Lawrence C. Mochal, 89, of Toledo passed away Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Mercy Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Paul Rendall officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 11 from 6 - 8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Lawrence was born on December 27, 1922 at the family farm in York Township, Tama County, Iowa, the son of Charles and Anna (Hladky) Mochal. He was united in marriage to Mildred Zamastil on May 1, 1968 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer. He lived on the eighty acre family farm for over eighty-five years. He retired from farming at age 58 but continued raising cattle after that. Lawrence was very knowledgeable about his finances and spent a lot of time studying them. He also had a good sense of humor. Lawrence enjoyed the company of his dog, Sweethart, and cats, Kizzie and Angel. He enjoyed gardening and made sure their cave was full of jars of vegetables. Lawrence was an active member of the Vining Fire Department from 1965 to 1981 and was also a member of the CSA Lodge in Vining.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Mildred Saver.
Lawrence is survived by his wife, Mildred of Toledo.
A memorial fund has been established.
