LeDonia was born on July 16, 1917, in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of William and Mary (Berka) Asmussen.
As a young child, she grew up across the street from the Chelsea Grade and High School and moved quickly through school skipping grades to eventually graduate with her older brother. LeDonia then moved to Cedar Rapids as a young girl and graduated from Cedar Rapids Business College and went to work for the Cedar Rapids Credit Bureau where she remained as Office and Credit Reporting Manager and Corporate Secretary for over forty years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and St. Bernadette's Circle, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, lifetime member of Mercy Hospital Auxiliary volunteering over three thousand hours with that organization, and Credit Women's Breakfast Club president and longtime member. LeDonia remained in Cedar Rapids all her life until relocating in 2008 to Premier Estates in Toledo. She enjoyed traveling, visiting area casinos, reading, and attending family events.
Her family was of great importance to her with five nieces and two nephews surviving her, Carol (Ted) Johnson of Rock Island, IL, Julie Asmussen of Urbandale, Janie (Joseph) Romano of Ames, Janine (Alan) Grambaucher of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Joyleen (Joel) Wolter of Denver, Jody Asmussen of Chelsea, and Jon (Lisa) Asmussen of Dysart; a sister-in-law, Dolores Asmussen of Tama and 14 Great Nieces & Nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, LaVerne and Franklin Asmussen; nephew, James Asmussen; and sister-in-law, Velma Asmussen.
Memorials may be made to your favorite Catholic charity, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary (Cedar Rapids) or donor's charity of choice.
The Family is most grateful for the excellent care given to LeDonia by the staff at Premier Estates over the past several years.
