TOLEDO- Leo P. Nieman, age 63, of Toledo died Wednesday, August 20, 2008 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a short illness. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 10:00 AM Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 22 from 4 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Leo was born on March 17, 1945 in Marshalltown, the son of Frank and Bernice (Hines) Nieman. He was united in marriage to Willa Potter in 1963 in Tama. Leo was self employed in heavy construction and also worked part-time at Lyon's Dairy. He truly enjoyed working, he also enjoyed being outside, camping, hunting, hanging out with his family and friends, and listening to country music.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank; wife, Willa in 1990; and a nephew Joel Nieman.
Survivors include his mother Bernice Nieman of Toledo; four children, Laura Lee Nieman of Tama, Stacy (Rich) Klostermann of Tama, Leo (Tammy) Nieman of Rainier, Washington, and Robert Nieman of Toledo; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sisters Sharlene (Rodger) Roberts of Laurel, Doris (Dennis) Novotny of Tama, and Betty (Duane) Noe of Tama; and one brother, Jerry (Marion) Nieman of Clutier.
A memorial fund has been established.
