Leonard "Pete"
Boyer
March 10, 1928 – August 3, 2024
L.J. "Pete" Boyer, 96, of Toledo, passed away after a lengthy illness on Saturday, August 3rd, at Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center, in the care of Essence of Life Hospice.
He was born March 10, 1928, to Henry and Nettie (Petersen) Boyer.
After graduating High School, Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served in the North Atlantic during WWII.
Pete loved trains and briefly worked for the railroad; he also did carpentry work, helping build many of the local barns. In 1951, he started work for Iowa Electric Light and Power, and retired as Operating Engineer from the Sutherland Generating Station in 1984.
In 1957, Pete married Betty Toland, and they made their home in Toledo.
Pete could build and fix just about anything, and when he wasn't working on the house or tinkering with a project in his basement workshop, the Boyer Family were either camping or backroading, exploring the many miles of gravel roads in and around Tama and Marshall Counties.
Once retired, Pete and Betty also had a camper at Shady Hills Campground, and spent many wonderful summers there.
Pete was a devoted and loving Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, who loved spending time with family, drawing pictures with the kids and grandkids.
He had an outgoing personality and was well known in the Community. He will be greatly missed, not only by family, but by his many friends and acquaintances.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, wife Betty, and infant son Scott Alan, and is survived by his daughter Rebekka (Steve) Bishop, Toledo, two grandchildren, Mackenzie (Beau) Waddell, Milton Wisconsin, Dylan (Brynna) Bishop, also of Milton, Wisconsin, and four great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, September 28 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.
A lifelong area resident, Pete was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Reinig-Friedrichs Post 72 in Toledo, and in lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Pete's name to the DAV or other military-service related organization of your choice.
