CLUTIER- Leonard Wilfred Hadacek, age 79, of Clutier, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier with Father Jerry Blake as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 3 from 4 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Clutier where there will be a vigil service at 7 PM.
Leonard was born on September 24, 1929 in Clutier, the son of John and Julia (Novotny) Hadacek. He graduated from Clutier High School in 1948. Leonard farmed the family farm near Clutier until health issues forced his retirement. He then moved to town. Leonard was involved with the youth of the community, helping with 4-H and Boy Scouts. He loved raising chicken and geese, gardening, writing birthday poems for his family, and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. Leonard was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Catholic Workmen, and the Men's Catholic Society of Foresters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include one sister, Dorothy M. (George) Hayek Sr. of Elberon; three nephews, Marcus (Barbara) Haack of Iowa City, Robert (Alysa) Haack of Lincoln, NE, and John (Chris) Haack of Roswell, GA; one niece, Mary (Ron) Tiedemann of Blairstown; and many great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
