Lester Lyle Graff, 88, of Toledo and formerly of Grinnell, passed away Friday, September 18, 2015 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Sheridan Cemetery in rural Malcom. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 6 - 8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Lester was born on November 30, 1926, in rural Poweshiek County, the son of Henry and Minnie (Keup) Graff.
He attended rural schools in Sheridan Township in Poweshiek County and graduated from Tama High School in 1945.
On September 10, 1947, he was united in marriage to Vivian Muirhead at the Toledo Methodist Church. Lester farmed in Sheridan Township on the family farm with his parents and then his family. In 1968, he started working for Holland Industries in Gilman until he retired in 1989. Lester was a member of Sheridan United Methodist Church where he was a M.Y.F. counselor for several years and held different offices on the church board. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a fifty year member of the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include one son, Dale (Janelle) Graff of Grinnell; one daughter, Sandra Meek of Tama; four granddaughters, Laurie Wilcox of Grinnell, Sheri (Sean) McFate of Toledo, Michelle (Greg) Heinsleman of Kellogg and Kimberly Meek of Tama; three grandsons, Brad (Gail) Meek of Toledo, Curt (Melissa) Graff of Grinnell and Kyle (Jess) Graff of Grinnell; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona (Paul) Fogel of Marshalltown; and one niece; and one nephew.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Vivian in 2005; his son, Kenneth in 2014; his son-in-law, Harold Meek in 1993; one grandson, Lonnie Graff in 1989; two great-grandsons, Kyler Wilcox in 1994 and Dylan Graff in 2001.
A memorial fund has been established.
