Obituary

TAMA-Lewis R. Lenhart, 94, of Tama, passed away December 9, 2010, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Thomas Dowling officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 14, 2010 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Lewis was born October 19, 1916, in Columbia Township, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the son of Fred and Agnes (Prochaska) Lenhart.
He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Force.
On October 19, 1948, he was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Heishman at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. Lewis drove a tank truck for Sinclair Oil for over twenty years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama, VFW and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Lewis was a sixty-five year member of the Tama American Legion. He was an avid bowler until 2009.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gladys on April 2, 2009; and one brother, William Lenhart.
Survivors include two daughters, Laurie (Charles) Shawver of Ashland, MO and Linda (Mike) Albers of Greenville, NC; three grandchildren, Phillip, Katy and Sarah Shawver; one brother, Lester (Norma) Lenhart of Toledo; one sister-in-law, Elaine Lenhart of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.
