Obituary

TOLEDO-Libbie Kos, age 91, a resident of the Keystone Nursing Care Center formerly of Toledo died Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Keystone Nursing Care Center under the care of Mercy Hospice.
Private Graveside Services will be held. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Libbie was born on September 18, 1918 southwest of Vining, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Buresh) Bartosh. In 1919, the family moved to Elberon where she worked summers as a hired girl from the ages of eleven to eighteen. She attended school in Elberon and graduated from Elberon High School as valedictorian on May 20, 1937. Following graduation, Libbie worked for Johnson Hardware. On January 10, 1939 she was united in marriage to George J. Kos. George and Libbie farmed as teammates where they accumulated 240 acres, retiring in 1981. Libbie and George later divorced. Libbie kept active doing volunteer work in the Toledo and Tama areas. She has served on the extension council, 4-H leader, fair board, family living, cow bells, Tama County Farm Bureau, secretary for the Tama County Women's Committee, and Mothers Home Circle. Libbie was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo where she had served as secretary of the Martha Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson, Keith Kos.
Survivors include two children, Lorraine (George) Vileta of Keystone, and Leland Kos of Broomfield, CO; six grandchildren, Denise Fitzpatrick, Michele Wilkie, Diane Vileta, Kim Vileta, Kelvin Kos and Kyle Kos; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Marie Vilimek of Lake Mills; and two brothers, Charlie Bartosh of Toledo, and Joe Bartosh of Dysart.
