Obituary

TOLEDO- Libby L. Zody, age 92, of Toledo, died on April 7, 2006, in Grandview Acres in Toledo due to a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 10, 2006, at 1:00 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 9, 2006 from 1-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with the family present from 5-8 PM.
Libby L. Zody was born on February 15, 1914, in rural Toledo, the daughter of James and Anna Chaloupek Melsa. She attended country schools. On February 13, 1934, she was united in marriage to Richard J. Zody in the parsonage of the Tama Methodist Church. The couple farmed in Otter Creek Township and Libby continued to farm on her own after Richard's death. Her career in farming spanned seventy-two years, and she has been dedicated to raising sheep for fifty-one years. She was a Farm Bureau member for many years. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and canning. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren when they came to visit.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard on July 3, 1978; one brother, Fred Melsa; and one sister, Aggie Melsa.
Survivors include one son, John (Janet) Zody of Toledo; one daughter, Bonnie Novak of Orland Park, IL; six grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; six step great-grandchildren; one niece, Patricia Price; one sister-in-law, Tillie Melsa; and many cousins.
