Obituary

TOLEDO - Lida May Seth, age 82, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo died Monday, November 13, 2006 at the center following a lengthy illness.
Funeral Services will be on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15 from 6 to 8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Lida was born on November 1, 1924 in Eveleth, Minnesota the daughter of Albert and Lucy May (Osborn) Peterson. She graduated from high school in Mountain Iron, Minnesota, and junior college in Virginia, Minnesota. She then graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis with a degree in Home Economics. During the war Lida went with a group of girls to California to work in an aircraft factory that was building B12's. Lida left Minnesota to teach home economics at Warren Wilson High School and Junior College in Swannanoa, North Carolina, which was at the time a mission school under the Presbyterian Board of National Missions. It was there that she met her future husband LaVern Seth. LaVern and Lida were married on July 26, 1952 in Virginia, Minnesota. After they were married they lived in Dubuque for about a year and a half before moving to Clarksville, Iowa where LaVern was a student pastor. Lida and LaVern left Clarksville to go as missionaries to Brazil. Arriving in Brazil they spent a year studying Portuguese in the language school in Campinas and the rest of their five-year term in the interior village of Sito do Mato. Returning to the United States in 1960, they accepted a call to serve as missionaries to the Meskwaki Settlement near Tama. They lived at the mission house at the edge of the settlement until 1975. Since that time they continued to live in Tama and Toledo.
Lida was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Thomas Peterson
Survivors include her husband LaVern; five sons Floyd (Shelly) Seth of Chelsea, Daniel (Jyotsna) Seth of Canyon, Texas, David (Susan) Seth of Coffeen, Illinois, Timothy Seth of Waterloo, and Paul (Theresa) Seth of Fairview, North Carolina; ten grandchildren Eric (Honda) Seth, Rebecca Seth, Michael Seth, Nathaniel Seth, Jennifer Seth, Mike (Tracy) Sieck, Brad Sieck, and Kimberly Sieck; five great-grandchildren Korbin Seth, Isabel Seth, Nathan Clemann, Brayden Clemann, and Abigail Sieck; a sister Mary (William)
Clayborn of Denver, Colorado; and two sisters-in-law Doris Peterson and Evelyn Foster.
