Lonnie Gene Hutson, 79, of Tama, passed away Sunday, August 16, 2026 at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Warren Riley officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Friday, August 21, 2026 from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the service at the church.
Lonnie was born on January 5, 1947, in Salem, Arkansas, the son of Roy and Gladys (Fuller) Hutson.
He graduated from North Tama High School in 1966.
Lonnie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War, serving in Vietnam for eighteen months.
On August 25, 1968, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Carol Mostrom, in Vinton, Iowa. Lonnie was employed by Tama County and then the State of Iowa, in road maintenance. He then worked for Fishers in Marshalltown as a Lathe Operator, retiring after thirty years.
Lonnie was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama and United Auto Workers (UAW). He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars and the house, and woodworking. Lonnie was also a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed camping on family trips in the pickup camper. They traveled to Red Rock, Iowa Lake, and Hannon Lake. Spending time with family and grandchildren was of most importance to him.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Carol of Tama; his children, Becky Hutson of Tama, and Chad (Diana) Hutson of Huxley; three granddaughters, Taryn, Jadyn, and Claire Hutson; siblings, Donna Pippert of Cedar Falls, and Gary Hutson of Blairstown; brother-in-law, Bruce Mostrom; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his son, Gabriel in infancy; parents-in-law, Marv and Martha Mostrom; siblings, Donald Hutson, and Linda Hutson; and sister-in-law, Sue Mostrom.
A memorial fund will be established.
