TOLEDO-Lorraine M. Vore, age 90, of Toledo, and presently residing at the St. Francis Manor in Grinnell for the past three years, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor James Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Lorraine was born on December 25, 1918 in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Eva (Smith) Atchison.
On April 24, 1937, she was united in marriage to Virgil V. Vore in Marshalltown, Iowa. Lorraine was previously employed at the Juvenile Home in Toledo, retiring in 1980. Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, crocheting, camping, fishing, canning, and playing cards. She also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago Cubs. Lorraine's greatest enjoyment was her role as a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Virgil on December 21, 2006; one son, James in infancy; two brothers, Arnold Atchison and Norman "Bud" Atchison; and two sisters, Vivian Brecht and Bonnie Skarda.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Willene) Vore of Toledo, Ronald (Mary) Vore of Belle Plaine and Fred (Bev) Vore of Vining; three daughters, Linda (Denis) Wilcox of Newton, Sue (Mike) Lewis of LeGrand and Gloria Jean (Larry) Peebles of Grinnell; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; two brothers, John Warren (Elaine) Atchison of Idaho and Robert (LaRue) Atchison of Toledo; four sisters, Rachel Coye of Toledo, Donna Brower of Bettendorf, Mary Chyma of Toledo and Patty Hansen of Marshalltown.
A memorial fund has been established.
