TAMA-Louis Vernon Taylor, age 70, of Tama, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 in his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 1:00 PMat Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Friday, August 14, 2009 from 4-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Louis was born on February 11, 1939, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Verna (Miller) Taylor.
He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1957.
He married Imogene Yilek and they later divorced. On April 21, 1975, he married Tamar Bennett. She passed away in 2001. He married Deb Marvin Thede on May 24, 2002.
Louis formerly worked for Tama Pack in the Stockyards and most recently worked for Meskwaki Casino. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama and the Toledo American Legion. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, fishing, hunting and bowling. His greatest enjoyment was being around his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Taylor; and one brother, Robert Taylor.
Survivors include his wife, Deb Taylor of Tama; his mother, Verna Taylor of Tama; eight children, Randy Taylor of Preston, ID, Steve Taylor of Preston, ID, Shelley (Bob) Thomas of Van Horne, Dana Taylor of Florida, Butch (Julie) Taylor of Wausau, WI, Irene (Richard) Hill of Tama, Toby (Kim) Taylor of Tama, and Shawn (Cindy) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; three stepchildren, Tonya Clark of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Penny) Thede Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and Lloyd (Amanda) Thede of Belle Plaine; many grandchildren and step-grandchildren; two brothers, Jess (Vonda) Taylor of Las Vegas, NV and Gary (Sis) Taylor of Andalusia, AL; one sister, Rose (Dan) Kriegel of Tama; along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
