TOLEDO-Lucille L. Smith, 94, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Public Visitation will be held Sunday, November 6, 2011 from 2-5 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will be private at a later date.
Lucille was born on August 29, 1917, in Gladbrook, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Alvena (Bern) Dahms.
On June 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Edgar R. Smith in Marshalltown, Iowa.
She worked for Dick's Restaurant in downtown Toledo and moved with them to the corner of Highways 30 & 63. She later worked at the Maid-Rite in Toledo. Lucille enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, and watching and feeding the birds. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching Iowa football. Lucille loved baking and cooking, especially for her family.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Edgar, on March 24, 2004; one son, Dale Smith; one granddaughter, Angela Benda; one great-granddaughter, Abigail Thomazin; five brothers, Gilman, Gilbert, Ervin, Lester, and Wilbur Dahms; and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Margaret Dahms.
Survivors include two daughters, Sharon (Joseph Westover) Benda Westover of Fortuna, CA and Joan (Lee) Meppelink of Toledo; twelve grandchildren, Billy, Sandra, Diana, Rodney, Tim, and Denise (children of Joan), Tracy and Terry (children of Sharon), Buffy, Christina, Jenny and John (children of Dale); numerous great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Ardis Dahms of Des Moines and Marcella Dahms of Gladbrook.
