Obituary

TAMA-Ludwig G. Herink, age 90, of Tama, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Deacon Joe Behounek officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 30, 2009 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Ludwig was born on June 25, 1919, in rural Vining, Iowa, the youngest child of eight children to Charles and Anna (Sokol) Herink.
On February 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to Helen Hrstka at the St. Mary's Parsonage in Vining. He worked for the railroad and then was a crane operator for Josyln's Wood Preserving and retired from the Tama Paper Mill in 1981. Ludwig was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time at Ellenbecker's station. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
Preceding him in death were his parents; four brothers, Fred, Ernest, Charles and Lester Herink; and two sisters, Libbie Starits and Agnes Herink.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Tama; four daughters, Suzanne (George) Mohrfeld of Tama, Geraldine (Marlin) Wiese of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl (Dr. L. Travis) Smith of Martinez, GA, and Karla (Warren) Marchant of Tifton, GA; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; his sister, Mildred Riha of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.
