Obituary

TAMA- Lyle Arvid Pagel, age 94, a lifelong resident of Tama, died on Sunday, December 17, 2006, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Ron Arends officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19 from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Lyle was born on December 28, 1911 in rural Tama County, the son of August Joseph and Mary (Bahrenfuss) Pagel. He graduated from Tama High School in 1930. On December 18, 1935 he was united in marriage to Bernice Lenhart at her parents home in rural Tama County. Lyle was retired from the Tama Paper Mill. Prior to working for the Tama Paper Mill, Lyle owned a gas station and a bulk oil delivery service in Tama with his brother Earl. Lyle was one of the founding members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama. He was active in Lutheran Brotherhood, and had been a member of the church council and other committees at the church. Lyle was an avid woodworker, and enjoyed fishing, traveling, and watching sports. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Carol Ann Brown, and two brothers Vern and Earl Pagel.
Survivors include his wife Bernice; a son Larry (Patricia) Pagel of Kearney, Missouri; a daughter Jean (Kurt) Sloan of Carlisle; a son-in-law Harold Brown of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren Lisa (Rob) Rivera of Cedar Rapids, Debbie (Randy) Rogers of Stillwater, Minnesota, Kris (Todd) Krueger of Morrisville, Vermont, Joseph (Lisa) Pagel of Kearney, Missouri, Dr. Kylie (Mike Davis) Sloan of Woodridge, Illinois, and 1st Lt. Joshua (Beth) Sloan of Seaside, California; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and a brother Harold Pagel of Tama.
