Obituary

CLUTIER-Lyle Frederick Sienknecht, age 84, of Clutier died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier with Father Jerry Blake as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 30 from 4 to 7:30 PM at Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier where there will be a vigil service at 7:30 PM. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Lyle was born on January 6, 1925 in rural Lincoln, Iowa, the son of John and Katie (Linder) Sienknecht. He was united in marriage to Irene Novotny on August 17, 1949 at Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier. Lyle served his country in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He was a partner with his brothers Les and John at Sienknecht Implement in Clutier. Lyle was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church Cluster. He was also a member of the Clutier American Legion, Lions Club, and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Lyle was a longtime member of the Clutier Fire Department where he served as Chief for many years. He was also a reporter for the National Weather Service for twenty-five years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Irene in 1997; a son and a daughter in infancy; two brothers, John Sienknecht, and Bill Sienknecht; a half brother, Lorenz Sienknecht; and two half sisters, Violetta Sienknecht, and Ada Krutzfeldt.
Survivors include a son, Nick (Kathy) Sienknecht of Clutier; two step children, Michael Spores and Rebecca Spores; a step grandson Brock Spores; three brothers, Leslie (Pauline) Sienknecht of Clutier, James Sienknecht of Clutier, and Ralph (Pauline) Sienknecht of Clutier; two sisters, Rosie Welton of Cedar Rapids, and Peggy (David) Dvorak of Elberon; and many nieces and nephews.
