Obituary

TAMA- Mabel Mae Van De Woestyne, age 81, of Tama died Friday, April 4, 2008 at her home following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 7, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 6 from 4 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Mabel was born on October 5, 1926 in Elberon, the daughter of John and Theresa (Macha) Braye. She graduated from Tama High School. On February 17, 1947 she was united in marriage to Ronald Eugene Van De Woestyne in Marshalltown. Mabel was a homemaker, caring for her home and family. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Mabel also liked watching sports especially, the Iowa Hawkeyes and NASCAR.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ronald in 1985; six brothers, Fred, Emil, John, Stanley, Ed, and Milvoy Braye; and two sisters, Anna Bliss, and Agnes Rutledge.
Survivors include three children, Patricia (Raymond) Svoboda of Waterloo, Connie (Steven) Betcher of Iowa City, and John (Sherry) Van De Woestyne of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren, Regina Smith, Douglas Svoboda, Angela Svoboda, Ryan Svoboda, Tyler Betcher, Zachary Betcher, Daniel Van De Woestyne, and Janet Harrison; eight great-grandchildren, Samantha Svoboda, Lucas Svoboda, Amanda Svoboda, Jordan Smith, Faith Svoboda, Maria Svoboda, Tanner Harrison, and Caitlyn Harrison; one brother, Leonard Braye of Hemet, California; and two sisters, Minnie Patrick of Tama, and Rose Von der Werth of Toledo.
A memorial fund has been established.
