TAMA – Maggie Mitchell, age 96, of the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama died on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at Grandview Acres in Toledo due to a short illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Monday, February 12, 2007, at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker.
A traditional wake will be held Sunday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Homes, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Maggie was born on September 27, 1910 on the Meskwaki Settlement, the daughter of John Mitchell and Ne co no ta. As a girl, she attended boarding school in Pipestone, Minnesota. Maggie was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sons, and one daughter.
Survivors include three daughters, Leona Davenport of Wright City, Missouri, Carolyn Hoag of Tama, and June Bear of Tama; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
