Marcus Martin Arp, age 62, of Fresno, California, died Friday June 5, 2009 following a sudden illness. Graveside services and a celebration of Marcus' life will take place on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Waltham Cemetery in rural Elberon. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Marcus was born on June 30, 1946 in Traer, the son of Henry C. and Verna (Fredirck) Arp. He was a Vietnam veteran. Marcus served in the armed forces for fourteen years. Marcus was devoted to his family and cared for them more than anything else. He was very talented and had many interests and hobbies including, studying history, woodworking, making jewelry, and working with stone. Marcus also enjoyed card games such as cribbage, spades, and pinochle. When he read or watched television, it had to be a book or program that would teach him something. He was very smart and was truly a self-educated man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother John Marcus Arp.
Survivors include four children, Debbie Smith of Ira, TX, Marcus Arp II of Bettendorf, Karl Arp of Fresno, CA, and Erika Rush of Kingsburg, CA; four grandchildren; his faithful companion Patricia Hase of Fresno, CA; one sister, Nina Phillips of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Arnold Arp of Tama, and Peter Arp of Tama.
