Marie Ann Anderson Menken, 87, of Indianola and formerly of Toledo, passed away Monday, February 10, 2025 at The Village in Indianola. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Marie was born on June 14, 1937, in Dunbar, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Eunice (Weitzell) Thornes.
She graduated from Dunbar High School and received her Associates Degree at Marshalltown Community College.
Marie married Bill Shuler and to this union two daughters, Terri and Tammy were born. She married Edward Anderson and to this union Stanley, Crystal and Amy were born. He passed away on January 31, 1996. She later married Don Menken.
Marie was a farm wife and then Clerk of Court for over eighteen years. Her hobbies included gardening, shopping, cooking and baking. She enjoyed dancing and music and she and her sisters sang at weddings and funerals. Marie also enjoyed traveling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Don of Indianola; children, Terri (Larry) Mason of Toledo, Tammy (Gary) Bradley of Chelsea, Stanley (Heidi) Anderson of Grimes, Crystal (Neil) Gray of DeWitt, and Amy (Steve) Willy of Cumming, GA; grandkids, Zac Zimmerman, Ann (Willie) Blasnitz, Carmen Zimmerman, Kellee (Russ) Klostermann, Dustin Dunton, Kayse Dunton, Codee Gerlach, Courtney (Jerid) Shryock, Lindsey (Sean) Hergenrader, Bailey (Sean) White, Sydney (Jesse) Slinkman, Peyton (Austin) Woods, Alecca (Seth) Bolen, Reece (Agata) Willy, and McKenna (Cole) Silverman; twenty-nine great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Plum, and Peggy (Juan) Keen.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edward; and great grandsons, Devonte and Lane.
A memorial fund will be established.
