Marie L. Davenport, 94, of Tama, passed away Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Sunday evening at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.
Marie was born on December 12, 1920, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Ke-wa-nee Lasley. Marie was united in marriage to Clyde Davenport in September of 1942. She retired from housekeeping at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. Marie was a life-long student and at the age 50, earned her G.E.D. to become a jeweler, sculptor, potter and painter. She crafted beautiful beadwork and made wonderful fry bread. She enjoyed gardening, good music, and dancing. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a kind and gentle soul.
Survivors include sons, David Davenport of Salt Lake City, UT and Steven (Bonnie) Davenport of Waterloo; daughter, Maxine Davenport of Cedar Falls; granddaughters, Michelle and Danielle; grandsons, Wesley and Apollo; great-grandchildren, Elisa and Delijah; great-great granddaughter, Kaylee; sisters, Lynn Davenport, Rae Jean Lasley, and Wanda Lasley all of Tama; many nieces and nephews; and adopted family members.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Clyde Davenport in July 1985; daughters, Jean Carolyn Davenport and Marie Louise (Nana) Roybal; son, William Thomas Davenport; grandchildren, Richard and Denise; brothers, Clifford, Victor, Vernon, and Jessup Lasley; sisters, Geraldine Lasley, Beulah Lasley, and Gweneth Stockton, and Effy Lasley.
