CLUTIER-Marie Florence Nowotny, age 91, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Marion and Clutier, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at the care center. Private graveside services will be held at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Toledo. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements.
Marie was born on July 31, 1917 in Chelsea, Iowa, the daughter of Florian and Frances (Milota) Machan. She grew up in Elberon and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Omaha, NE. Marie was also a graduate of the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA. She was united in marriage to Richard Nowotny on June 19, 1939 in Vining, IA. Marie was an avid reader and also enjoyed crossword puzzles. Her greatest joy came from caring for her family and home. Marie was a loving daughter, wife, and mother. She was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Richard; and two brothers, Leonard Machan, and Francis Machan.
Survivors include one son, Lan (Dorothy) Nowotny of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Diane (Robert) Raftis of Marion, and Jan (Kevin) Ives of Traer; five grandchildren, Teri (Steven) Craven of Hiawatha, Tracey (Curtis) Long of Dubuque, Shelley (Mark) Davenport of Cedar Rapids, Kristi Uddin of Allen, TX, and Rhett (April) Nowotny of Gibsonton, FL; thirteen great-grandchildren, Camden, Meghann, and Gracie Long, Melissa (Ben) Brown, Lindsay Raftis, Cyndi Craven, Katie, Alex, Aaron, and Andrew Davenport, Ashley and Justin Uddin, and Jade Nowotny; and one brother, Leo Machan of Wellington, KS. Also surviving is a special friend, Helen Kawa of Omaha, NE; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
