TAMA- Mario Gene Mitchell, 24, a resident of Rolling Green Village in Nevada, and formerly of Johnston and Tama, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Traditional Graveside services will be held Friday, November 11, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A traditional wake will be held Thursday evening at the Native American Drum & Dance Society Round House on the settlement.
Mario was born on April 24, 1987, in Marshalltown, the son of Marvin Mitchell and Gina Kapayou.
He graduated from Johnston High School. Mario enjoyed watching cartoons and always had a big smile on his face.
Preceding him in death were his grandmother Mamie Mitchell; grandfather Eugene Kapayou; uncles, Eugene Kapayou Jr., Jack Kapayou, Dixon Mitchell and Ruben Mitchell; and cousins, Marques Kapayou, Terry and Mike Mitchell.
Survivors include his parents Marvin Mitchell and Gina Kapayou of Tama; five sisters, Melissa, Jennifer, and Lucinda Mitchell of Waterloo and Lucille and Twyla Kapayou of Tama; one brother Joshua Kapayou of Tama; three nephews and one niece; a grandmother Joyce Kapayou of Tama; uncles Malcom and Keith Mitchell of Tama; and many cousins and other Aunts and Uncles.
