TAMA- Mark Joseph Moyer, age 82, of Tama died Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown due to an extended illness.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, December 18, 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael. Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 17 from 5 to 7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Mark was born on May 28, 1924 in Tama, the son of Joseph and Anna (Kocourek) Moyer. He graduated from Tama High School. Mark served in the United States Navy during World War II. On December 14, 1944 he was united in marriage to Ruth E. Birch at the St. Patrick's Church Rectory. Mark retired from The Tama Paper Mill after 35 years of service and also worked for a period of time at Northwestern Railroad prior to that. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Tama American Legion Enright-Schrader Post #73, and the Knights of Columbus. Mark enjoyed golf and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and attending their activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Don and Richard Moyer, and a sister Devota Coomer.
Survivors include his wife Ruth ; one son, Jerry (Nancy) Moyer of Tama; two daughters, Patricia (Larry) Pagel of Kearney, Missouri and Sue (Terry) Quigley of Tama; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; a brother Robert (Nancy) Moyer of Stockport; two sisters JoAnn Novotny of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Roberta Burnes of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
