Marlys "Molly" DeVonne Parks, 85, of Tama, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 28, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Marlys was born on October 5, 1927, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Miland and Christina (Long) Walls.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1945.
On August 18, 1973, she married Oran "Junior" Parks and they resided outside of Tama. Marlys worked at King Tower Café in Tama for fifteen years and owned and operated Molly's Kitchen in Tama for twenty years, retiring on July 1, 1993. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and American Legion Auxiliary, and the Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers; and seven sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Oran "Junior" Parks of Tama; three children, Pam (Ron) Horbach of Garland, TX, Steve (Theresa) Slagle of Toledo, and Jeff (Ronee) Slagle of Tama; two step-daughters, Terri Lynn (Barry) Papesh of Tama, and Joni Parks of Crossville, TN; her grandchildren, Mark (Kristin) Spear, Angie (Rod) Cory, Shannon Konicek, Tara Slagle, Steven Slagle, Tyler Slagle, and Ian Slagle; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
