MARSHALLTOWN-Martin Jay Davenport, age 41, of Marshalltown formerly of Tama, died Saturday, November 3, 2007 at his home due to a sudden illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement with Larry C. Lasley Sr. as speaker. Public Visitation will be on Monday, November 5 from 2 to 4 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Monday evening at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the settlement.
Martin was born on May 13, 1966 in Marshalltown, the son of John Freland and Katherine Davenport. He worked in surveillance at Meskwaki Bingo, Casino, and Hotel. Martin enjoyed drag racing; John Force was a big favorite. He also enjoyed playing pool, being around his friends, and attending drag races.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine Davenport; grandparents Martin and Louise Morgan Davenport; and uncles, Michael Davenport, Larry Davenport, Merlin Davenport, and Robert Davenport.
Survivors include two sons, Brandon White of Marshalltown and Grayson Davenport of Tama; his father, John Freland of LeGrand; two sisters, Tamara Peterson of Illinois and Julie (Todd) Skala of Toledo; one brother, David Freland of Wyoming; many aunts and uncles; and numerous relatives.
