TOLEDO- Marvin Paul "Bud" Willer, 82, a resident of Carrington Place in Toledo passed away on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at Carrington Place in Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 28, 2010 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama where there will be a vigil service at 7 PM.
Marvin was born on December 15, 1927, in Tama, the son of August and Johanna (Frahm) Willer. He graduated from Tama High School in 1946 and then joined the U.S. Navy. Marvin served in Saipan and Guam at the end of World War II. On October 30, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bernice Biley at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in rural Toledo. He farmed for ten years on the property that is now Tama County Lake in Otter Creek Township. Marvin then owned and operated Willer Ag Service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama, and Farm Bureau. Marvin loved the outdoors, working in the fields, fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren growing up and always looked forward to all family gatherings.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Roger Willer.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Tama; two daughters, Karen (Joe) Davis of Athens, AL and Katharine (Patrick) McCaslin of Urbandale; son, Kim (Shelley) Willer of Ankeny; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Lenhart of Tama and Ethel Clark of Whitesboro. NY; a sister-in-law, Shari Willer of Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
