Obituary

Marvin George Mitchell (Ki e ta ge), 61, of Tama, passed away Friday, December 16, 2011 at his home. Traditional Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Larry Lasley Sr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at Lasley's Ceremonial Building on the settlement.
Marvin was born on December 9, 1950, in rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Gilbert Brown and Beverly Mitchell.
He graduated from South Tama High School. He went to Desert California College and then attended Upper Iowa College and UNI. Marvin had previously worked at John Deere in Waterloo.
Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed going to the Casino, playing cards, and doing beadwork. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his aunt, Mamie Mitchell who raised him; one son, Mario Mitchell; and his adopted mother, Irma Lasley.
Survivors include five daughters, Melissa, Jennifer, and Lucinda Mitchell of Waterloo and Lucille and Twyla Kapayou of Tama; one son, Joshua Kapayou of Tama; three grandsons; one granddaughter; two brothers, Malcom and Keith Mitchell of Tama; and his adopted family.
