TAMA-Mary D. Atchison, age 72, of Tama died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November18 from 3 to7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Mary was born on January 6, 1937 in Tama, the daughter of Arnold and Lillian (Libby) Lewis. She was united in marriage to Norman "Bud" Atchison Sr. on October 3, 1959 at Lancaster, MO. Mary was previously employed at the Pete Tavern, Tomahawk, Ben Franklin, Tama IE Company, Mother's Kitchen in Toledo, and the Eagles Club in Tama. She retired in 2002. Mary enjoyed camping and baking, and especially enjoyed decorating for holidays throughout the year. She also liked to send cards and watch sports. She was a member Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Norman "Bud" Atchison Sr. on August 22, 2007.
Survivors include one son, Tony (Kathy Goodvin) Atchison of Tama; two stepsons, Norman (Kara) Atchison Jr. of The Colony, TX and Mike (Jan) Atchison of Rhodes; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Prusha of Tama, Faith (Butch) Backen of Tama, and Dodie Fisher of Ft. Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
