Obituary

TOLEDO-Mary H. Christensen, age 91, a resident of Carrington Place in Toledo died Monday, February 2, 2009 at the care center under the care of Iowa River Hospice following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:30 AMat Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Shomo officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 3:30 – 6:30 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Mary was born on February 28, 1917 in rural Montrose, Colorado, the daughter of Henry and Katherine (Schmer) Pauli.
Mary graduated from Montrose High School in 1936 and Blair Business College in Colorado Springs in 1938. She worked for Haigler Realty Company in Colorado Springs for eight years where she met her husband, Vaughn Christensen, who was serving in the Army. They were married on October 16, 1946, in Toledo and lived their entire married life in Toledo. She was employed in the Tama County Treasurer's Office for twenty-six years, the last ten years as Deputy County Treasurer. She retired in 1986. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo, where she was the church treasurer for over thirty years. She was a member of the Tama-Toledo Kitchen Band, the American Legion Auxiliary, Chapter 1931 of NARFE, and the Woodlawn Cemetery Association. She did volunteer work at the Toledo Senior Center for several years and belonged to the RSVP. Her family was first, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who always brought a smile to her face. The last four and one half years, her home was at Carrington Place.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vaughn on January 30, 1992; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Ann (Mark) Princehouse and Cheryl (Gerald) Husak, both of Toledo; her grandchildren, Jamie (Dino) Baldazo of Montour, Marty (Katie) Princehouse of Huxley, and Ethan Husak and Jordan Husak of Toledo; great-grandchildren, Brock, Desirae, Tony and Tyler Baldazo, and Andrew and Molly Princehouse; one sister, Irene (William) Stark of Montrose, CO; one brother, Edward Pauli of Montrose, CO; and many nieces and nephews.
