Obituary

TAMA-Mary Margaret Hayward, 93, a resident of Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown and formerly of Tama, passed away, Friday, March 11, 2011 at the care center. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 at 1:00 PMat Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, March 14, 2011 from 12 PM until service time at the funeral home.
Mary was born on March 2, 1918, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas S. and Susan (Jackson) Griswold.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1936. She was a member of the Girl's Glee Club, IUKA News Staff, Girls basketball, soccer, volleyball, and tennis teams.
On August 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Ronald Floyd Hayward. She formerly worked at the Bee Hive and Ben Franklin stores in Tama. She enjoyed helping others, visiting with friends and neighbors, and caring for her family. Mary was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, where she was involved in the women's association.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Ronald in 1978; her daughter Margaret Ann (Peggy) Awtry in 1993; her granddaughter Nicole Kay Hayward in 1997; two sisters Janet Malin and Josephine Hoskins; and one brother John Griswold.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Hayward of Des Moines and Larry (Noreen) Hayward of Destrehan, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Bruce Awtry, Scot Hayward, Amanda Hayward, and Stephanie Hayward Hughes; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be directed to Iowa Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
