Mary Kerkman, 94, of Toledo, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Premier Estates of Toledo under the care of Hospice Compassus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 19, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Dennis Conway as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019 from 5 -7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service and Rosary following at 7 PM.
Mary was born on September 30, 1924 in Clutier, Iowa, the daughter of William and Emma (Chaska) Kunch.
On April 7, 1947, she was united in marriage to Eldon G. Kerkman at Clutier, Iowa.
Mary was a homemaker and had previously cleaned houses. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama and was formerly in the Toledo Garden Club. Mary loved to cook, garden, sew, and crochet. She was well known for her kolaches and bread.
Survivors include her children, Ronnie (Rose) Kerkman of Vinton, Linda Kerkman of Toledo, Eldie Kerkman of Vinton, Diane (Sidney) Hass of Marshalltown, and Martha (Mike) Mumm of South Amana; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, Louie Kunch of Marshalltown and James (Marlene) Kunch of Marshalltown; two sisters, Lucille Plum of Toledo and Ann Smith of Toledo; a sister-in-law, Burnadene Kunch of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Eldon on December 2, 1995; three brothers, Harry, William, and Cyril Kunch; a sister, Albia Kunch; and two daughters-in-law, Ann Marie and Connie Kerkman.
A memorial fund has been established.
