TAMA-Mary Agnes Kucera, age 88, a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, and formerly of Garner died Saturday morning, June 17, 2006 at the center following a lengthy illness under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Liturgy will be Monday, June 19, 2006 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Rev. Michael Schueller as Celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama where a rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM with a vigil service following.
Mary was born on January 21, 1918 in rural Tama County , the daughter of Anton and Anna Zmolek Kucera. She worked as a housekeeper for Monsignor John Chihak from 1945 until 1986 following him to several parishes. Mary was a member of various Altar and Rosary Societies and KD Lodge #130. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, hunting mushrooms, canning and gardening and mastered the art of smoking fish.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers Philip, Anthony, Joseph, and Frank Kucera, a sister Anna Hlas and sister-in-laws Agnes (Philip) Kucera and Agnes (Tony) Kucera.
Survivors include two sisters Frances (CJ) Wobeter of Toledo and Genevieve Kucera of Clutier; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and three sister-in-laws Margaret Kucera, Mamie Kucera, and Lillian Kucera
A memorial fund has been established.
