Mary Esther Zurkowski, 71, of Toledo passed away, Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.


Mary was born on March 3, 1943, in rural Tama County, Iowa near Haven, the daughter of Howard and Eunice (Glendy) Meek. She attended country school at Richland #4 and graduated from Tama High School and Marshalltown Community College. Mary was united in marriage to Henryk Jan Zurkowski on June 1, 1974 at the Gospel Center Church in Tama. She worked as a LPN for twenty years, retiring in July of 2005. Over the years she worked at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, Grandview Heights Care Center in Marshalltown, and Grandview Acres Care Center in Toledo. Mary attended the Tama Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed reading, collecting Northern Cardinals, paleontology, and archeology.
Survivors include four children, Dawn Lough of Toledo, Lori (Keith) Fairbanks of Cedar Rapids, Roneé (Jeff) Slagle of Tama, and Robert (Jennifer) Vore of Marshalltown; step-son, Jacek (Alicja) Zurkowski of Poland; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Jerald D. (Hela) Meek of Tama; and a sister-in-law, Janet Meek of Vinton. Mary is also survived by three fur kids.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Henryk on September 3, 2010; two brothers, Joel F. Meek and a brother in infancy; and two nephews, Scott Meek and Ronald Meek
