TOLEDO- Melvin R. Yuska, age 71, of Toledo died Sunday, February 25, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines due to a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28 from 4 to 8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Melvin was born on June 7, 1935 near Clutier, Iowa the son of Joseph and Frances (Zmolek) Yuska. He attended country schools by Clutier and graduated from Clutier High School in 1953. On August 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joanne Vesely at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Melvin worked for Asplundh Tree Expert Company for twenty years and later purchased Ralph McCreary's Trucking and continued hauling supplies for Iowa Electric until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and Tama County Farm Bureau. Melvin was also a former member of the Toledo Fire Department. He enjoyed polka music, cruising around town in his pickup, family, friends, and his health care friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eleanor Novotny; and two brothers, Stanley and Joseph Yuska.
Survivors include his wife Joanne; a daughter, Debbie (Rick) Burnes of Toledo; three sons Doug (Connie) Yuska, Dale (Bernice) Yuska, and Danny (Judy) Yuska all of Toledo; nine grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Doyle, Andrea (Curt) Graff, Nicki Yuska, Amanda Yuska and special friend Dave Dankbar, Aaron Yuska and special friend Brooke Wedmore, Danny Yuska Jr., Brian Yuska and special friend Kathy Walker, Lacie Kriegel, and Derek Kriegel; five great-grandchildren, Dalton, Kadyn, and Bostyn Doyle, Jaden and Madelyn Graff; seven sisters, Dorothy Adams of Clutier, Helen Zmolek of Traer, Leona (Vernon) Krezek of Clutier, Albina (LaVerne) Krizek of Waterloo, Martha Untiedt of Clutier, Maxine Yanda of Traer, and Betty Krezek of Traer; and three brothers, Harry (Dorothy) Yuska of Tama, Clarence (Sharon) Yuska of Toledo, and Ronald (Beverly) Yuska of Tama.
