Michael N. McFate, 79, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2022 at MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Per Michael's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no public services. Private family burial to be determined at a later date.
Michael Norman McFate was born on April 26, 1943, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Mary (Faught) McFate Bartling and stepfather Roger Bartling.
He graduated in 1961, from Tama High School, Tama, Iowa.
On March 23, 1963, Mike was united in marriage to the love of his life Suzanne Bidwell in Tucumcari, New Mexico. The couple was blessed with three children, Pam, Missy and Sean. Mike worked at Fisher Controls in Marshalltown, Iowa as an On Time Delivery Specialist for 30 years before retiring at the age of 55.
Mike had a passion for woodworking, landscaping with his wife, fishing, camping and telling jokes. He was an exceptional artist, and he painted beautiful pictures. He loved to draw funny pictures for his family. Mike's greatest passion in life was being "Bumpa" to his grandchildren.
Mike will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Sue of Reinbeck; daughters, Pam (Rob) Werner of Gilbertville and Missy (Willy) Haughey of Tama; son, Sean (Sheri) McFate of Toledo; grandchildren, Brandon Haughey of Waterloo, Charity Seymour of Gilbertville, Cortney Slack of Tama, Aubree McFate of Toledo and Autumn McFate of Toledo; great-grandchildren, Malia Slack, Abel Gonzalez, Audriana Gonzalez and another to be born in December; sisters, Noel (Paul) Duffy of Tama and Kenne Wolf of Tama; brother-in-law, Mike Bidwell of Tama; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Mary Bartling; in-laws, Leonard and Bette Bidwell; great-granddaughter, Mia Seymour; brother-in-law, Dick Wolf; sister-in-law, Cindy Ealy; and nephews, Cody Ealy and Drew Bidwell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Mike's name to his family, which will be determined by the family.
