TAMA-Mildred B. Petersen, age 95, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo, and formerly of Tama entered into rest on Thursday, September 13, 2007 at Grandview Acres due to a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Monday, September 17, from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Mildred B. Petersen was born on March 13, 1912, in Sheridan Community of Poweshiek County, the daughter of Clarence and Miriam (Tahash) McFate.
On May 18, 1940, she was united in married to John P. Petersen. She made her home in Tama throughout her lifetime. An industrious woman, Mildred had many skills to her credit. She taught country school in the Tama County area, cooked at the County Home, was a grocery clerk, and became a secretary for Dr. Davis DVM for many years. After her retirement, Mildred became a companion for homebound patients. She was an avid seamstress, cook, and homemaker. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, various needlework, reading, working crossword puzzles and traveling to visit family members that are scattered all across the United States.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John P. Petersen; one son, Richard Petersen; one brother, Kenneth McFate; and three sisters, Velma Noe, Beulah Pagel, and Leona Faught.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis Stump of Tama; one sister, Rachel Stephenson of Loveland, Colorado; one brother, Delmar McFate of Tama; four grandchildren, Craig (Candy) Steven of Ventura, California, John (Beth) Steven of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Connie Clow of Ventura, California, and Roberta (Gary) McClellan of Cullman, Alabama; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
