TOLEDO- Mildred Agnes Silhanek, age 87, a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama and formerly of Toledo, died on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at 1:30PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastoral Associate Tom Christoffer, officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 28 from 12:00 noon until time of service at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Mildred was born on January 29, 1919 in Chelsea, Iowa the daughter of Vencil and Julia (Stadler) Melsa. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1936. She was united in Marriage to Edward James Silhanek on October 17, 1936 in Illinois. Mildred was a homemaker and helped Edward on the farm. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens and also liked to sew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward Silhanek on October 6, 1978, two brothers Louis and Fred Melsa, and a sister Louise Plotz.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean (Ken) Parker of Hayesville, North Carolina, Bonnie (Dan) Coleson of Cedar Rapids, and Marie (Bill) Thoms of Marshalltown; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
