Mildred Pauline Downs Williams, 87, of Montour, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Premier Estates of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation will be held Friday, June 24, 2016 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Mildred was born on November 14, 1928, in Montour, Iowa, the daughter of Francis Edison and Lillian (Brown) Downs.
She was Valedictorian at Montour High School.
On January 5, 1947, she was united in marriage to Everett "Jack" Williams in Lawrence, Kansas. Mildred was formerly a legal secretary for Welp, Harrison, Brennecke and Moore in Marshalltown, retiring in 1994. She also did typing from her home. Mildred was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour and a former secretary for the Montour Alumni Association. She was involved in the Senior Meal program in Montour for many years. In her spare time, Mildred enjoyed sewing, embroidery, reading, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, fishing, camping, square dancing and playing cards. Mildred and Jack were known for a yearly open house at Christmas time, decorating to the hilt inside and out.
Survivors include four children, Phillip Dean (Margaret) Williams of Toledo, Craig Everett (Charolotte) Williams of Montour, and Scott Lee (Barbara) Williams of Hoquiam, WA and Kile Francis (Lois) Williams of Carpentersville, IL; seven grandchildren, Teresa, Missy, Toby, Christine, Angie, Amy and Abby; twenty-one great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold (Norma) Downs of Le Grand and Donald (Dolores) Downs of Gladbrook; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Everett "Jack" in 2014; one son, Stanley; one sister, Margaret Downs; and one great-granddaughter, Aubry Glenn.
A memorial fund has been established.
